What's going on with school?
I've enrolled in a "College of Cosmetology". It's run by a graduate of the school my aunt was telling me about so I guess she's highly qualified to select teachers and make sure it'll be a good experience . I'll be doing a 6 week course in facial makeup artistry, at the end of which I'll have a level 2 NVQ-J. It's an evening thing: 5:00PM - 9:00PM. It's a small-ish school and this isn't their most popular course so I'll be the only one in the class. I start the 12th of August so I'll be sure to update you on that when I can.
I'm also reconsidering taking up UWI's offer. I was offered a place, conditionally and I've recently been sent my second letter. The one giving your student registration number, payment information and such. The reason I'm reconsidering is I realised that whatever I choose to do will be under the faculty of social sciences and at the school all students in that faculty do the same things in their first year. So when I make my mind up in the upcoming school year I'll just change my major for the following year with no adverse effects. And when I do, I'll move to the main campus, away from my parents and closer the the country's beauty industry. Buut.....I'm still not sure.
What's going on with MUA-ing?
Soon after I've started working on my portfolio I started thinking about how I'd market myself as a makeup artist. I watched some videos on youtube of how other MUAs got started and I've decided to start a blog, open a profile on model mayhem, design business cards, open a facebook fanpage and utilize youtube. I've already done all of those except one. A blog and model mayhem profile were the easiest. I've decided to start the facebook fanpage after my course when I'd start taking paid work. I already had a youtube channel but now I'm working on improving the quality of my videos by making them shorter, easier to watch and stepping my editing game up. And, today I've finally completed my business cards. :) I'm so excited about them because I worked really hard and mostly did it myself (But only mostly). Ofc, there's always room for improvement but I'm comfortable with them as they are, at the present moment.
