Athena In Pink :)

The title is hilarious because this friend turned model of mine HATES the colour pink. I totally forgot that when I was inspired to do this look. Also, thumbs up for my most camera-shy friend and someone who has never worn makeup agreeing to be made up and photographed repeatedly. :)

This was my first time working with Asian eyes. She literally has no eyelids when her eyes are open. This didn't cause a problem with applying the makeup just photographing it later.

I used the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the bronze in the inner corner then used some browns from my elf palette to darken the outer corner then some hot pink in the crease to introduce a pop of colour. I used two shades of pink to help the blending.

The lips were pretty washed out by the light but I used a bright pink that matched the crease colour from my Coastal Scents 66 lip palette and lined with a slightly darker coloured Jordana LipLiner.

Secret Rose Garden

I was online "shopping" (with no intention of checking out the things in my cart) and I came across a competition one of the sites was hosting. They gave a theme, "In The Garden" and showed a makeup look that one of their professionals came up with and the persons entering were prompted to "beat the artist" and come up with a better look. As I'm now "putting myself out there" I decided to enter. Here's a photo of the look I created:

I would rotate the picture but I think it looks better this way. *shrug*
Trying to keep with the theme I used some bright pinks and greens. I did a weird type of cut crease where I cut the actual crease with a dark green and I cut above the crease by not blending the light green into my brow highlight. I used my BH Cosmetics 88 Tropical Shimmer palette for all the shadows and my Jordanna Eye Primer/Base and my NYX jumbo eye pencil in Milk   to help the shadows show up brighter.

I love, love, love the way
I filled in my brows super thick.
And I've been told that the winged shape of the look and the way
I brought the light green
shadow way past my
inner corner made the
eyeshadow resemble a bird's wing. That's good
birds are in gardens, right? ;)

On my lips I used a bright pink from my Coastal Scents palette, lined my lips with a Jordanna lipliner and used a NYX round lipstick in a light pink at the center of my lips. I think the pinky hues keep the look playful and girly, which allows the lips to relate to the garden theme.

Makeup for Black and White Photography

My friend, Lydia agreed to let me use her face for practicing makeup that's meant for black and white photos. Before I started working on my portfolio I read/heard that it's good to have at least one black and white photo so here are they are:

I didn't do anything too colourful because colours don't show, just the intensity or the amount of darkness/light in the colours. That being said I highlighted and contoured heavily with my elf Warm Bronzer and my Coastal Scents Camouflage palette, respectively.

For the eyes I used all the matte shades in the Wet n Wild Vanity palette. I used the highlight shade on the lid and to highlight the browbone, the darkest shade to add depth to the crease and the medium brown to help the blending between the other two shades on the outer half of the lid and above the crease.

I used a tonne of products on the lips to get it how I wanted. You can see how they stand out against her skin tone, are lighter in the center where the light hits and all the colours are blended out and in a slight gradient.

If I could fix anything in this look, I'd make the brows darker so they stand out more and I'd highlight the tear duct area with a light shimmery shadow. Despite these shortcomings I liked how this look turned out. And I'm becoming a better photographer, it seems. My shadow isn't in any of the shots. Lol.

Double Winged Liner

Today I found something else I love about the line of work I've chosen to pursue. The makeup part is fabulous and, of course, is what got me started on this journey. But before today I haven't really thought of this aspect: making another girl feel beautiful. When I put a full face of makeup on I feel gorgeous and glamorous and 10 times more Davia than I usually am. It changes my mood, the way I look at myself in the mirror, the way I walk down the street. It gives me confidence. And today I helped give that feeling to another girl and knowing that I helped to make her feel that way is an indescribable pleasure.  Needless to say, I really enjoyed working with this girl and the fact that she photographs beautifully was an added bonus.

1950's Pin-Up Look

I feel like I haven't posted on here in forever. Partially because I haven't. Lol. I did this and took pictures about a week ago but wasn't in the mood to do any writing. Without much ado, here it is.

This era's makeup is characterized by thick, dark brows, heavy, winged liner and a bold, matte lip. There's a misconception that red was the lip colour of the era but any bright colour will do if you're planning on recreating a similar look. Keeping the eyes as neutral as I did was a choice, I did this to make the look more wearable.

List of Products:

Face - E.L.F Warm Bronzer to highlight my cheekbones

Eyes - The shadows used were from my Coastal Scents Original 88 Palette.

The eyeliner is Coastal Scents liquid liner in Jet.
I used an E.L.F. brow stencil to shape my brows.

Lips - I used Jordana's Kohl Kajal Lipliner in Red to fill in my lips.
I used the coolest red (the one that has more blue undertones) in my Coastal Scents 66 Lip Palette.

Quick Tip: Having more blue undertones in red lipstick helps your teeth look whiter.

First Application On Another Person

Today was the first time I've done makeup on someone else for my portfolio. I've done my mother's makeup, helped aunts and friends with theirs and worked on a few models for an amateur fashion show at my school but this was still a really exiting time.

 Neutral Cut-Crease

For the first look I tried to do a mainly brown cut-crease but I don't think I pulled it off very well. The fail isn't obvious in the open eye-d photo but when my model's eyes are closed or she's looking down you can see that  didn't do as much blending as I should have to get the black fading into brown which would fade into my frosty highlight. I just didn't think about that until after I saw the photos. "A" for honesty and gaining experience? And "A+" for the lips which were the redeeming factor in this look. I outlined the lips with a black pencil and blended it out into a very cool toned red. I really love the way that turned out.

Tenacious Teal

The next look I did, in my opinion, was a complete success. I just loved this dark smokey eye on her. The eye look was centerd on the Maybelline Color Tatoo - Tenacious Teal which was the only colour used. I used some balck to darken this up and add some drama. I used a nude lip colour as the eye was already so dramatic.

Pretty In Pink

As promised, here's the newest look I've done for my portfolio. The central theme of this look is the colour pink. Pink on the lids, the lower lash line, lips and the cheeks. This is the fist look in my portfolio with such a noticeable cheek colour. Pink overload? I think not. Lol. I decided to do a softer version of a cut crease look and I used brown instead of a darker colour to keep the lid soft and girly.

  Eye Products Used:

1. Maybelline Color Tatoo - 05 Too Cool
I used this as a base to make the pink show up more
true to colour and add a touch of shimmer.

2. BH Cosmetics 88 Tropical Matte Palette
I used a pink in this palette to put colour on my lids.

3, Coastal Scents 88 Original Palette
I used a brown from this to cut my crease then
blended it upwards, I used the black to add
definition to my cut crease and I use a light matte
shadow to highlight my browbone.
